Saint-Pierre, the former capital of Martinique, was devastated at the beginning of the last century, in 1902 by the eruption of Mont Pelée Volcano in only three minutes.Saint Pierre, with a population of 6,000 inhabitants, is rising from its ashes now. The city keeps proudly the ashen ruins of its magnificent past together with the signs of a brilliant future and a fascinating view and many attractions that make the tourists to feel great enjoying the delights and pleasures of this wonderful place. The city is located in a bay to the northeast of the island and at the foot of Monte Pelée. One of the main roads of the island takes you to this place all along the coastline from the capital. Another main road from Marigot or Basse Pointe on the south coast of the island also takes you to this city.
