Tegucigalpa

Tegucigalpa is Honduras’ capital and headquarters of public powers. Founded in 1880, this city was of the most important mining hubs of the entire Central American region during colonial times. The capital belongs to the Department of Morazan in the Central District, whose surface is 1,396 square kilometers and the population hovers around one million inhabitants.
This is the country’s political and administrative hub, a commercial city that shares an equal level of relevance with San Pedro Sula. The department has 27 municipalities. It abuts the Department of Yoro up in the north, the Olancho and Paraiso departments to the east, the Choluteca and Valle departments in the south and La Paz and Comayagua departments to the west.
With the population growth marching on, the former land extensions that once harbored old-time estates, were rearranged to build restaurants, ballrooms, movie theaters and other commercial sites. One of the most favorite nightlife spots is the Morazan Blvd.
One of the city’s most traditional celebrations is the Holy Week marked by a series of processions and events held in temples and churches all around town. In the month of September, the city celebrates its foundation anniversary and San Miguel Archangel, the burg’s saint patron.
