Heredia, 1961 Miguel Hernandez got, 1982, his degree in Fine Arts, in the National University Heredia. In 1989, he gets his master’s degree in Painting, in the Pratt Institute of New York. Miguel Hernandez is remarkable for his wide catalogue of individual exhibitions such as the one in the Leonora Vega Gallery of New York in 1997; in the Jacob Karpio Gallery of San Jose, Costa Rica in 1992. In 1991 he exhibited "La figura humana trascendiendo el simbolismo" in the Museum of Contemporary Hispanic Art (MOCHA) of New York, USA. Among the collective exhibitions he has participated, the most important are: “MESOTICA II: Centroamerica re-generacion”, Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, San Jose, Costa Rica (1987); several exhibitions with the Bocaraca Group, in ARCO Madrid, Spain; II Biennal of the Caribe and Central America in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (1994) and the IV Biennal of Cuenca in Ecuador. In 1993 he exhibited in the International Fair of Art in Chicago, Jacob Karpio Gallery, USA, in the Alternative Gallery of Caracas, Venezuela and the Museum of Modern Art in Panama City. He integrated the travelling exhibition of Costa Rican art in the Sprengel Museum of Hannover, Germany. "Entre tropicos" of the Museum of Contemporary Art Sofia Imber of Caracas, Venezuela; "Maestros de Latinoamerica" Camino Brent Gallery of Lima, Peru; FIA ´92 International Fair of Art of Caracas, Venezuela and "Art Miami 92" Miami, USA. In 1984, in the I Biennal of Havana, Museum of Fine Arts in Havana City, Cuba. Prizes and recognitions: As member of the Bocarara Group, in 1993 he was awarded with the prize Ancora of the newspaper La Nacion, San Jose, Costa Rica and the National Prize of Painting “Aquileo Echeverria”, San Jose, Costa Rica. In 1987 he received a scholarship of Fulbright Painting so he could study in New York. In 1983, the National Prize of Drawing “Aquileo Echeverria”, San Jose, Costa Rica and, in 1982, Gold Medal in the Drawing Contest Tomas Povedano.
