There are six districts: Belize, Cayo, Corozal, Orange Walk, Stann Creek and Toledo. Main cities: Belize, Belmopan. Orange Walk, San Ignacio, Santa Elena and Corozal

Coast

A 386-km coastline


Rivers

Major rivers are Belize, Hondo, making up a considerable chunk of the Belize-Mexican border, and Sarstoon that marks the southwestern frontier with Guatemala.


Lakes

Belize’s lakes are nor worth mentioning.


National Flora

Almost half of Belize’s territory is covered with forests. Softwood trees abound in the north while hardwoods prevail in the south.Main species are mahogany, cedar, rosewood, pines, oaks and palm trees, while mangrove thickets dot the swampy coastline.


National Animal

Its wildlife consists of cougars, deer, tapirs and numerous birds and reptile species. The country’s flora and wildlife are protected in national parks and reserves, currently covering one third of the nation’s total surface.
