Bahamasair Connects Houston – Bahamas with Nonstop Flights

Beginning November 16, 2017, Bahamasair will offer nonstop airlift from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston, Texas to Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) in Nassau, Bahamas, connecting the 12th busiest airport in North America with one of the top tourism destinations in the Caribbean.

Tauck to Strengthen Cuba Operations in 2018

Guests can set sail on the new 11-day small ship cruise itinerary, Cruising Cuba: A Cultural Gem, beginning in December 2018. The journey includes a seven-night cruise aboard the 60-passenger Le Ponant, a two-night stay in Havana and an overnight stay in Miami prior to departure.

Eastboard itineraries available December 13 and 27 will sail from Havana to Santiago de Cuba while one westbound departure on December 22 will take the opposite route.

IMEX America Puts Business Opportunities on the Table

As 12,000 plus exhibitors, hosted buyers and attendees at this year’s IMEX America said “Farewell,” IMEX Group Chairman Ray Bloom reflected upon the achievements of the show and a positive, unifying week for the meetings industry.

Over 3,200 hosted buyers and an additional 2,500 plus attendees came to Las Vegas, and Tuesday and Wednesday were the busiest days ever at IMEX America.

JetBlue & TAP Partnership Hits One Year Mark

On June 16 last year, TAP Air Portugal entered into a partnership with JetBlue to provide convenient flight connections through New York’s John F. Kennedy, Boston’s Logan airport and Newark Liberty. The two airlines codeshare on JetBlue flights from 38 U.S. cities, onto TAP’s Lisbon flights from the three U.S. gateways, to destinations across Europe and Africa.

U.S. Virgin Islands to Welcome Royal Caribbean on November 10

The Government of the U.S. Virgin Islands has issued a statement announcing the return of Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas to the territory on Friday, November 10.

U.S. Virgin Islands Governor Kenneth E. Mapp and Commissioner of Tourism Beverly Nicholson-Doty report that the cruise company will be the first to return to St. Thomas following back-to-back Category 5 hurricanes that impacted the territory last month.

National Airlines Supports Global Relief Effort in Puerto Rico

National Airlines is proud to announce that its 747-400 freighter fleet has operated 13 flights transporting 2.7 million pounds of much needed aide to Puerto Rico and quickly deliver goods to areas most devastated by Hurricane Maria. In addition, the Company operated a flight that transported more than 200 stranded cruise ship passengers on its 757-200 on a relief flight from Miami to San Juan.

Meliá Cuba to Reopen Hotels after Hurricane Irma

Cooperation with the Cuban tourism authorities and the crucial support of employees has made it possible to quickly repair the facilities damaged by the hurricane which affected the destinations of Jardines del Rey, Cayo Santa María and Varadero in the north of the island.

During the temporary closure of the hotels, improvements have also been carried out which will allow Meliá Cuba to present new products for the upcoming high season.

FEMA to Charter Carnival Fascination Ship

Carnival Cruise Line said its ship operating out of San Juan, the Carnival Fascination, will be chartered to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), wiping out four months of cruises.

The move came at FEMA's request, Carnival said. The cruise line had been set to resume its normal seven-day cruise schedule from San Juan on the Carnival Fascination on Oct. 15.

Instead, Carnival said departures from Oct. 15 through Jan. 28 have been canceled. The Fascination will resume regular year-round cruising from San Juan on Feb. 18.

Aeromexico, Japan Airlines Reach Codeshare Deal

Aeromexico and Japan Airlines have agreed to launch a codeshare partnership in Japan’s fiscal year 2018, that combines the synergies of both airlines. It is hoped the alliance will provide a wider connectivity between Mexico and Japan.

The codeshare is subject to necessary approvals from authorities and will help to pursue significant cooperation in the near future, allowing the carriers to leverage each other’s network, expertise and assets in benefit of their consumers.

U.S. Cruise Lines Shrug Off Cuba Travel Warning

Although the U.S. Department of State recently issued a travel warning on Cuba, a number of cruise lines plan to add itineraries to Cuba next year.

The Sept. 29 statement, which “warns U.S. citizens not to travel to Cuba,” is based on a series of mysterious illnesses that have befallen U.S. Embassy workers in Havana. 

But several cruise lines operating ships in and around Cuba have released statements pushing back on the warning, noting that no tourists have been harmed in these incidents.

Cuba Gears Up for High-Peak Travel Season

Despite the problems caused by meteorological events such as hurricanes, Cuban authorities reiterate today that their tourist facilities are ready to start the high season (November-April) in the island.

Spokespersons from different territories affirm this statement, even in the most affected places by the passage of Hurricane Irma, as the north coast of the center of Cuba.

The Minister of Tourism, Manuel Marrero, in recent television broadcasts, believes that there will be no problem to receive travelers from around the world in the aforementioned period.

Consider what transpires between Washington and Havana because of injury to American and Canadian diplomats from mysterious sonic waves.

First, the U.S. stopped issuing visas to Cubans, not vice versa. That means Cubans on the islands cannot visit family in the USA. Harsh!

Second, the sonic attacks stopped. They were aimed at diplomats, not tourists. The latter infuse some $3 billion annually into the economy; the second source of foreign exchange.

JetBlue to Slash Caribbean Capacity due to Hurricane Aftereffects

JetBlue, which operates approximately 20% of its flights in and out of the Caribbean on a typical day, expects to reduce capacity fleetwide by approximately 2.9% below earlier plans because of hurricanes Irma and Maria.

The hurricanes will cost JetBlue $114-$134 million in 2017, the carrier said in an operational update Wednesday.

Among the hard-hit Caribbean destinations that JetBlue serves are St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. JetBlue also has the largest operation of any airline in San Juan and serves the Puerto Rican cities of Ponce and Aguadilla.
